1971 Started Shukokai karate (Sensei Des Botes/Lionel Marinus)
1976 Awarded 1st Dan status (graded by Sensei Lionel Marinus)
1977 Natal Provincial Shukokai Kumite and Kata Champion
1978 Obtained Instructor status, opened up 3 Dojo's in Natal
1979 1st Place team event in International Triangular tournament held in Botswana. Botswana vs South Africa vs United States.
1980 Awarded 2nd Dan status (graded by Sensei Kimura)
  Awarded Natal Provincial colours
  Gold medallist South African All-Styles champion
  Chosen to compete in 3-man team event against All-Styles teams vs Japanese JKA teams. Awarded 1st Place.
   Natal Provincial Shukokai champion
  South African Shukokai champion and Grand champion
1981 Silver medallist World Shukokai Championships held in USA - Kumite.
  Chosen to represent Natal at the team event at the South African Festival Games
1982 Awarded South African Springbok Colours.
  1st Place team event against Germany
1983 Awarded 3rd Dan status (graded by Sensei Kimura)
  2nd Place team event in World Shukokai Championships in Portugal.
  Bronze medallist South African All-Styles Championships - Kumite
1984 Bronze medallist South African All-Styles Championships - Kumite
1985 Silver medallist South African Festival Games - team event
  Attended World Shukokai Training Seminar in Birmingham, England.
  Attended World Karate Union All-Styles Championships in Holland - unable to participate due to politics
1988 Awarded 4th Dan status (graded by Sensei Kimura)
  Gold medallist South African Shukokai Championships - Kata
  Silver medallist South African Shukokai Championships - Kumite
  Granted honorary life membership of the South African Shukokai Association
1992 Stopped competing in tournaments and concentrated on promoting my karate clubs
  Was nominated as the Natal Provincial All-Styles Team Coach
1993 Left to travel to the USA and train with Sensei Kimura at the World Shukokai Headquarters in New Jersey, USA
  Awarded 5th Dan status (graded by Sensei Kimura)
1998 Bronze medallist World Shukokai Open Kumite Championships
  Currently run 2 very successful karate dojo's in Natal. A number of students have represented South Africa in International tournaments, as well as holding the titles of South African and Natal Provincial Champions.
